Information Security Awareness Training

Ninjio Cyber Security Awareness Training

To elevate the training program to combat cyber attacks more effectively, we partner with a 3rd party company, Ninjio, to provide training opportunities and learning moments through monthly videos to the SJSU community. These short, story-based episodes, cartoons, and infographics are designed to educate our campus community and raise cyber security awareness.

These emails reinforce cyber security topics (including Phishing, Ransomware, Malware, Viruses, Password Best Practices, and more) that lead to a higher level of security awareness. The entertaining and educational messages benefit our community both at work and at home, as the lessons apply to both professional and personal lives. Faculty and staff can register up to seven friends and family members to receive these lessons at no cost.

Enrolled friends and family members will receive the latest NINJIO AWARE Episode the first week of every month.

CSULearn Online Training

SJSU’s training application, CSULearn, provides a brief online introduction to computer security and FERPA issues. These tutorials take approximately 30 minutes to complete and provide some essential information about computer security and campus policy. To access your training:

  1. Visit the CSULearn Portal.
  2. Select SJSU from the campus drop-down menu.
  3. Log in using your SJSUOne account.
  4. At your CSU home page, select the search icon.
  5. Locate the training course you wish to take and begin.

Per ICSUAM8035 [pdf], "Data Security and Privacy" and "FERPA and Protecting Education" are required courses for SJSU faculty, staff, student employees, auxiliaries, and volunteers. Other courses are available in CSULearn, which provide more detailed information on specific areas such as HIPAA (Health) and PCI (Credit Card) data usage.

IT Security Communication

Cybersecurity Resources for Tax Season: April is a prime month on the calendar for cyber criminals as they exploit tax season, looking to phish your accounts or trick you into installing ransomware. Cyber attackers aren’t only after money, either. They’re targeting the influence and ideology of the university community. It’s more important than ever to stay vigilant and protect yourself and your privacy.
