Current Research Activities

Associate Professor of Urban and Regional Planning Laureen Hom’s scholarship examines community development, gentrification and political organizing in racialized spaces. She has published a book, “The Power of Chinatown: Searching for Spatial Justice in Los Angeles” (UC Press), along with articles in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Journal of Urban Affairs, Public Integrity, and Urban Affairs Review. She has also authored policy reports and assessments about Asian Americans. Hom received her Ph.D. in planning, policy, and design with an Asian American Studies emphasis at UC Irvine and is a member of the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California and Los Angeles Chinatown Community Land Trust.
