Sparta Camp (First-Time, First-Year Orientation)
All Spring 2025 admitted students must attend a Spring Orientation session, which is a one day experience, and participate for the entire duration of the program. Here you will get an official campus welcome, hear from various departments including Financial Aid and the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, meet with academic advisors, and get a chance to connect with an Orientation Leader. Spring Orientation will be complete once you are done with your advising and course registration overview.
Spring Orientation is mandatory and attendance will be recorded. If you do not attend, or if you leave during any portion of the event, you will be blocked from registering for classes and will NOT be able to attend San Jose State in Spring 2025.
New Student and Family Programs will send you an orientation confirmation letter to your MySJSU Messages one week prior to your scheduled virtual orientation date. You can access your MySJSU Messages via your one.SJSU.edu student portal.

Please note that all sessions may not be available to you on your Next Steps portal. The Spring Orientation sessions available to each student will be based upon when their major will be offering academic advising. Additionally, sessions fill up on a first come, first serve basis so this may also affect general orientation session availability.

View your Spring Orientation Session
You may change your session in your Next Steps portal prior to the intent to enrollment deadline. In hopes to maintain an equitable registration process for all incoming SJSU students, we do not accommodate orientation session changes after the intent to enrollment deadline. We do make exceptions for extenuating emergencies that can be verified with proper documentation. If you have an emergency and can't attend Spring Orientation, please contact us at [email protected].
Before Attending Spring Orientation
- Complete Spartan Link Online Orientation Module. (Students given access in December 2024)
- Review your confirmation letter sent to your MySJSU Messages (access through your one.SJSU.edu portal) one (1) week prior to your Spring Orientation session.
Students attending Spring Orientation who need disability-related accommodations should contact the Accessible Education Center (AEC) at [email protected] as soon as possible or at least two weeks prior to attending your orientation session.
Each student will be provided with the following overnight items: pillow, blanket, two sheets, a pillowcase, and a towel/washcloth
