I have an accounting degree or concentration from a U.S. institution.
Excellent! You are off to a great start. If you have earned a degree in accounting in the U.S. you may have already completed all seven prerequisite courses. To waive the prerequisite courses, you should have completed these courses with a B grade within the past five years. The courses are: equivalent SJSU classes are in ()
Introductory Financial Accounting-lower division (BUS1 20)
Statistics-lower division (BUS2 90)
Five upper division accounting courses in:
Intermediate Financial Accounting I (BUS1 121A)
Intermediate Financial Accounting II (BUS1 121B)
Accounting Information Systems (BUS1 120A)
Management Accounting and Control Systems (BUS1 122A)
Tax Factors of Business and Investment Decisions (BUS1 123A)
If you need clarification on whether you have completed all seven prerequisite courses please contact [email protected] and attach copies of your transcript(s).
If you are selected for admission to the MSAA but still need some of the prerequisite courses, your offer of admission will be conditional. The condition will be that you successfully complete the required courses in the Certificate in Accounting Fundamentals offered in the summer term.

These five course are offered in the Certificate in Accounting Fundamentals program in the summer prior to the start of the fall MSAA classes. All five of these courses are upper division and you may not complete them at a community college.

Introductory Financial Accounting (BUS1 20) – with a grade of B by May 15th. This course is a prerequisite to the next five courses. This course must be completed
at an institution in the United States. Some California community colleges offer introductory
financial accounting on site and online.
