Our special topic workshops will be offered throughout the morning in repeating sessions:

How to Manage Student Finances

Location: Student Union, Ballroom A

Learn about managing your student account with the Bursar's Office including locating due dates, available payment options and signing up for electronic direct deposit refunds.

Starting Your Spartan Journey at Orientation & Beyond

Location: Student Union, Ballroom B

Meet with the team at New Students & Family Programs to learn more about SJSU's orientation programs including Sparta Camp (frosh orientation), Spartan Experience for Transfers, Spartan Link, and the online pre-orientation module, plus hear from current students on why they choose SJSU. First year students will also learn more about our First Year Engagement Program - Spartan Village.

UndocuSpartans: Navigating SJSU

Sessions 1 and 2 in English

Incoming undocumented students and their family members are welcome to join us for an information session where they will:

  • receive information on how to qualify for in-state tuition
  • learn about financial aid options and resources for undocumented students
  • identify opportunities to participate in the UndocuSpartan Student Resource Center.

New, F-1/J-1 International students are encouraged to join Spartan staff from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and International Recruitment and Partnerships (IRP) at San Jose State University for a session on how to transition as a new international student at SJSU. Learn about the final admission steps, how to transfer your I-20, and what support services and resources are available. From 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, international students are invited to meet with the team for interactive hands on admissions drop in advising.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Learn about financial aid and how to fund your SJSU education through federal grants, state grants, federal loans and institutional scholarships.

Study Abroad for All: Becoming a Global Spartan

Location: Student Union Meeting Room 3A/3B

Join us to discover all the amazing global experiences available to you at SJSU! We have over 350 programs around the world for every major, minor, or GE requirement. In this session we will provide an overview of all of our programming, cost structures, available financial aid, and discuss how a globally focused program can help you reach your personal, academic, and professional goals (and have a life changing experience). Come and learn how to plan for and become a Global Spartan!

First Year Placement and Early Start

Location: Business Boccardo Building (BBC 004 next to BBC courtyard)

Learn about how your mathematics and writing enrollment categories are determined and how they affect your first year course options. We will also provide information about a summer enrichment program called Early Start, which allows students in all majors to complete their first math course before the fall semester begins. Early Start helps students in STEM majors get to calculus faster and students in Non-STEM majors complete their mathematics GE requirement with wrap-around academic support.

Please be sure to check the session offering of the workshop you wish to attend as only one presentation will be hosted by each organization for the morning.

Cultivating Comunidad with Centro

Location: Student Union, Meeting Room 4A/B
Session 1 | 9:30 a.m. - 10:05 a.m.

Learn about the various support services, activities, and programs offered by CENTRO and the many ways student help build and strengthen the Latinx community at SJSU. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from Latinx students, professors and staff.

Student Success for Asian and Pacific Islander Students: Welcome to CAPISE!

Student Success for Black African American Students: Welcome to the BLOC

The Black Leadership & Opportunity Center is dedicated to building and solidifying the Black student community by focusing on providing relevant and exciting cultural, academic, and social experiences that foster a sense of community, and aid in the retention and graduation of our Black Spartans. This session provides an in-depth look at some of the amazing things happening at the BLOC.
