How to Apply: Transfer Students
At SJSU, we make transferring as an international student simple and straightforward. Our students come here to study economics, computer science, artificial intelligence, and software engineering, amongst many other tech and innovative programs. Admissions Requirements
- Students may transfer to SJSU as upper-division or lower-division students. Each category has its own requirements. Please visit the CSU Eligibility Requirements for more information.
- In addition to the CSU eligibility requirements, transfer students must meet the impaction requirement (GPA threshold) and complete the required prerequisite courses of the desired major in order to be admitted. Transfer Impaction Results By Major
- International students must satisfy the English language proficiency requirement unless exempt.

Supplemental Application Requirement
For each admission cycle, all applicants for transfer will be required to complete an SJSU-specific Supplemental Application, including grades for all coursework completed to meet the requirements for admission for that term. Supplemental Application for Transfer
How to Apply:
To apply as an international transfer student, please apply through Cal State Apply.
After applying through Cal State Apply you will need to set up an account on one.sjsu.edu. From there you will receive information from your MySJSU Account on your specific required documents.
- Create an account and submit an online application on Cal State Apply, and pay the $70 fee (see the International Application Guide)
- Activate your MySJSU account and check the To Do List
- Submit the required documents
The majority of applicants will need to submit the following documents by the document deadline to complete their application before it can be reviewed for admissions. Some will have more or fewer documents to submit, depending on the actual program they apply for and their residency status.
- Secondary transcripts and any college transcripts for lower-division transfer
- Post-secondary (college) transcripts of all undergraduate coursework for upper-division transfer
- English language proficiency test scores, unless exempt
- Supplemental application (if required)
- Financial documents
- Copy of passport
- Make sure to follow SJSU undergraduate deadlines and monitor the document status
- SJSU begins to admit students in November for the spring intake and in March for the fall intake

- Test scores: All test scores (English, IB, AP, etc) must be electronically sent to SJSU by the testing administrator.
- Financial documents and passport: As part of the application process for international applicants (i.e., those seeking F-1 status), you must submit a declaration of finance form along with the supporting financial documents. Upload your documents through the Document Upload Form
Steps to Admission
- There are 11 steps to gain admission to SJSU.
- For those applying for the F-1, it is important to submit your application early to have time to be admitted, receive your I-20, and apply for your visa.
- For all others, it is important to meet the deadlines so you can continue the application process. If you miss an SJSU deadline, your application will be withdrawn.
